Scranton Avenue Carriage Works

Cleveland, Ohio

Can a building convey a synthesis of past, present, and future? This is what Dave and Sara hoped to explore with their designers, when they purchased a 14,000 square foot industrial warehouse in one of Ohio’s most desired neighborhoods of Cleveland. The goal was not only to create an activating and inspiring mixed-use development of apartments and commercial space, but more importantly, to create their new home. It would be an integral gem, carved out of the dusty, charred brick and timber structure. The renovation and addition would require an intense investigation into the history of the building and the neighborhood, the perfect balance of old and new textures, and the conveyance of a contemporary and created lifestyle for the inspired homeowners. Smart salvaging, surgical slicing, story-telling / story-listening, timeless detailing, and eclectic juxta-positioning were all used in the transportation and elevation of this home. The result is Scranton Avenue Carriage Works – A time capsule of progress, capturing the past, the present, and the future to come.
