The goal of the project was to create a kinetic live-work space in an existing abandoned warehouse, in an undeveloped area of the city.

The final design is an adaptable and playful concept merging a fully functioning home, a maker/marketing space for budding businesses, and a great place to host movie night with nieces and nephews! This home is also a true pioneer for the area and has since become a catalyst for other post-industrial rehabs in the neighborhood.

The aesthetics are driven by the desire to connect to the history of the place. The area has a history of manufacturing and a rawness in its structures. It looks across the industrial heritage of the city of Cleveland to see the shining lights of downtown. The goal was to accentuate the rawness of the context and existing space, featuring original brick walls, steel roof structure, stairwells, etc. The kinetic live/work home becomes both a metaphor and another shining example of Cleveland’s post-industrial rebirth!
