Modular Living Pods

Cleveland, Ohio

The goal of the project was to create a residential project on an urban site that maximizes the use of prefabrication in creating contemporary design.  We worked to push the boundaries with the use of technology in design as well as technology in production to produce forms that would take advantage of the site lines and context.

Since the site is on the waterfront with major ship access this opened up opportunities for prefabrication locations and delivery sizes that normally might not be available.  Our base module for a 700 s.f. unit was roughly 30'x24'.  This shape could be made offsite and shipped to the property and lifted by crane or helicopter into place.

We proposed that the entire unit would be directly made from the computer to the machine.  In this manner we would able to work with mass producing forms that would typically require high craftsmen making one off objects
